Sometimes people mistake humility for weakness

Sometimes people mistake humility for weakness. Jesus’ life shows us that humility requires great strength and that a humble life reflects God-given courage. Strength and courage come from an unshakeable confidence in God. Knowing who we are in relationship to God frees us to humbly serve God’s purposes with our lives. Does your life reflect Christ-like humility?
Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross! Philippians 2:5-7
Prayer: Jesus, I am humbled at Your willingness to become a servant. You know the prideful places in my heart, the places that fight the thought of humbling myself. Thank You that knowing this, You still love me and You forgive me. I humble myself before You today, and ask that Your example of humility would permeate my life today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Come and See

When Jesus started calling his disciples in John 2-3 His invitation was simple, "come and see".  This invitation dramatically changed the lives of those who accepted it and in-turn they dramatically changed the world.

Come
Step of faith, leave your current environment, follow me, take that 1st action

See
Come with expectation, not blindly following, see what He will do for you and through you

This is still His invitation to you today, whether for the 1st time or for the 100th time. He is inviting you to Come and See.

Come and See what life is all about
Come and See the blessings He has in store for you
Come and See freedom
Come and See eternity with a God who loves you

Sin City

Do you have "your drink"? Is it a martini, a jack and coke, a seven and seven? Mine was a white russian. After watching the Big Lebowski I was hooked.

Do you have "your poison"? Is it the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, or the pride of life? After college mine was a cocktail of all three, I was hooked.

Lessons I was taught in 2010... and am still learning

To watch for the ricochets
To not be a steam-roller
That contentment is key
That we can live on a budget
That too much TV is a waste
That dog pee stains don't come out of grass
That dog hair gets everywhere
That a dog truly is man's best friend (and women's best friend when man is traveling)
That sales is the easiest low paying job and the hardest high paying job
That Texas is a big state
That two boys are better than one
That I don't know everything
That exciting ideas aren't always good ideas
To sleep on it and not act rashly
That emails can hurt
That I need to always wear ankle braces when playing basketball
That great basketball teams like great wines get better with age
That airsoft is cooler than paintball
That it is a long drive to Seattle
That it is sometime hard to be the son of a great man
That it is always a blessing to be the son of a great man
That the more grandmas the merrier
That turning 31 was harder than I thought
That purity can be hard, but is easier with accountability
That humility is hard
What integrity truly means
That gentleness isn't weakness
That pride and fear are connected at the hip
That God gave me the perfect help-mate

Reflections on John 1:1-5

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word (Logos), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The same but separate, the Trinity, one God - many parts

Logos
• “reasoned discourse”
• “divine animating principle pervading the Universe” "Law of the Universe"
• the glue, the rules, how it work, the hidden truth, the secret, the uniting theme, the key
• The bridge between God and Man
• “logic”, “ology” – the study of
• God - the Dao, the Path, the Way
• The unmade maker
• Rational, decisive

"This LOGOS holds always but humans always prove unable to understand it, both before hearing it and when they have first heard it…” (Diels-Kranz 22B1)"

“I shall give you another testimony, my friends, from the Scriptures, that God begot before all creatures a Beginning, [who was] a certain rational power [proceeding] from Himself, who is called by the Holy Spirit, now the Glory of the Lord, now the Son, again Wisdom, again an Angel, then God, and then Lord and Logos” Justin Myrtr

Aristotle’s three forms of argument
• Logos – reason
• Pathos – emotion
• Ethos – character-based (trust me)

2 He was with God in the beginning. Personification of the Logos

3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
The means, the bridge, the blueprint & builder

4 In him was eternal life, and that eternal life was the light of all mankind. The light – the key, the secret, the illuminator, the revealer

5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. or understood it

Rock church

Good to be back at the place where I truly found Jesus Christ. The Rock Church is now online live - cool stuff. You can send a link to anyone on earth and they can watch it live online. Pro day next week.

Do something church
Counts, walk, ask, love

Pervasive hope, be a hope-dealer

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in Him will not die, but have everlasting life.

Story: draw bridge operator choosing to sacrifice his son to save the people on the boat.

1. Love must be directed toward e'r-body
- no really, everyone, even your enemy
- "when you have a baby it is the 1st time that your heart
lives outside your body" that is how God feels about
everyone
2. Love is self-sacrificial God-obedience
- love is not an emotion, it is a choice followed by action

3. Love produces eternal God-likeness
- changes you and them
- a company's brand is it's promise "we try harder"
- what is God's brand? A transformed life (matt 11:1-6)
