John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word (Logos), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The same but separate, the Trinity, one God - many parts
Logos –
• “reasoned discourse”
• “divine animating principle pervading the Universe” "Law of the Universe"
• the glue, the rules, how it work, the hidden truth, the secret, the uniting theme, the key
• The bridge between God and Man
• “logic”, “ology” – the study of
• God - the Dao, the Path, the Way
• The unmade maker
• Rational, decisive
"This LOGOS holds always but humans always prove unable to understand it, both before hearing it and when they have first heard it…” (Diels-Kranz 22B1)"
“I shall give you another testimony, my friends, from the Scriptures, that God begot before all creatures a Beginning, [who was] a certain rational power [proceeding] from Himself, who is called by the Holy Spirit, now the Glory of the Lord, now the Son, again Wisdom, again an Angel, then God, and then Lord and Logos” Justin Myrtr
Aristotle’s three forms of argument
• Logos – reason
• Pathos – emotion
• Ethos – character-based (trust me)
2 He was with God in the beginning. Personification of the Logos
3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
The means, the bridge, the blueprint & builder
4 In him was eternal life, and that eternal life was the light of all mankind. The light – the key, the secret, the illuminator, the revealer
5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. or understood it
